Where Technology, Creativity and Altered States Converge

Hello Cybernauts,

This summer, we embarked on an adventure unlike any we’ve taken before.

We set off on a journey across Europe’s most iconic Psytrance festivals to introduce the festival-goers to the Cyberdelic Paradigm, and the reception was beyond anything we could have imagined.

Our showcase offered festival participants an opportunity to experience non-drug altered states and escape the intensity of the festival crowd.

Through immersive, psychedelic-inspired narratives, we ignited awe, presence, wonder, and self-discovery. Here’s a brief recap of where we’ve been and what we’ve achieved.

Masters of Puppets: The Darkpsy Initiation

Our tour began at Masters of Puppets, where we dove into the bizarre, fast-paced world of Darkspsy and Psycore.

It felt like stepping straight into a William Gibson cyberpunk novel, with festival-goers embracing the strange and surreal.

This was the perfect environment to test our cyberdelic tools in various settings (including the dancefloor) and spark discussions about technology-mediated altered states in such an electric and machine elve atmosphere.

Ozora: The Veterans of Psychedelia

Next, we headed to Ozora, one of the oldest and largest psytrance festivals, hosting around 60,000+ attendees.

Over the course of a week, festival-goers immersed themselves in the full spectrum of psychedelic culture.

Here, we held a two-day Cyberdelic Showcase that attracted a flood of curious minds and experienced creators.

On the last day of the festival we took over the podium at the Chambok House with three banging talks by Melissa, Carl, and myself (Jose).

We then followed by a panel discussion featuring core members of the Cyberdelic Society and new friends met at the festival.

The energy was palpable and vibrant, full of interest and insightful questions, these crowd were ready to explore and integrate cyberdelics as part of the wider transformational culture movement.

Mo:Dem : A Deep Dive in Cyberdelia

Our final stop at Mo:Dem in the beautiful mountains of Croatia.

For this festival we doubled down on our offerings, presenting four lectures, one panel, and twelve immersive experiences.

These sessions opened a portal into the possibilities of the cyberdelic realm and how it can be integrated within transformational festivals.

Our tent near the chill stage gave the Mo:Dem audience a break from the high, eclectic and enigmatic vibes of the Hive Stage and the Swamp stage, inviting festival-goers into a space of deep curiosity and exploration.

Here’s is the Cyberdelic Menu we offered at Mo:Dem

Key Insights from our Talks

We had a stellar lineup of speakers throughout the summer, each offering unique insights into the evolving cyberdelic landscape:

  • Melissa Warner: Cyberdelics: Technology to Nurture The Psyche

    – Melissa’s talk focused on the therapeutic possibilities of cyberdelics, emphasizing how digital realms can be used to care for and expand the human mind.
  • David Glowacki: VR Models of What It’s Like to Die: The Aesthetics of Un-collapsed Potential

    – David explored the intersection of NDE, VR and Psychedelics, offering an awe-inspiring look at his research with the "numadelic" aesthetic, where bodies appear as light, evoke transformative effects and meaningful insights.
  • Carl H. Smith: Hyperhuman Techniques and Technologies for Regeneration: Achieving Alter Traits of Consciousness

    – Carl examined how cutting-edge technologies and techniques can push human consciousness into new states of regeneration, unlocking altered traits through altered states.
  • Jose Montemayor Alba: Brave New Worlds: Exploring the Impact of Hyper-Reality and Cyberdelics on the Future of New Media

    – Jose shared his research and insights into of how hyper-reality design and cyberdelics can converge to reframe the new media landscape and integrate it within transformational culture.
  • Zeus Tipado: Perception in the Year 2077: The Future of Neuroscience and Synthetics

    – Zeus talk dove into speculative posible futures, where neuroscience and synthetic realities converge to radically shift how we experience consciousness and perception.

Also a huge shout-out to our panelists at Ozora and MoDem for their incredible contributions to our discussions: Edo Fouilloux, Michael Flood, Storm Hartley, Ben Outram, Melissa Warner, and Tirso Thyrsus Perez

Lessons from the Road

During our tour, we learned several valuable lessons that will help guide the future of the application of cyberdelics at festivals:

  • Cyberdelic Experiences as a Healthy Escape:

Festival-goers appreciated having a space to escape from the madness of the crowd, using cyberdelics as a way to access non-drug altered states of consciousness.

The demand for this kind of refuge was palpable, offering them moments of introspection and recalibration.
  • Broader Cyberdelic Content:

Beyond our official showcases, we realized that much of the content at these festivals like projection mapping installations, visionary artworks, stage design and even the music could be considered cyberdelic in its nature.

This indicates a larger trend where art and technology converge to create hyper-realities that induce altered states of consciousness.

If you dont know what makes something a cyberdelic read this previous letter

  • Harm Reduction Potential:

Another key takeaway is the potential of cyberdelics to spread harm reduction information for those who explore with psychedelics.

We witnessed a few unfortunate accidents among people who were uninformed about safe drug practices.

We believe cyberdelic spaces and experiences could serve as a platform to educate and guide people on how to approach altered states safely and more responsibly.
  • Craving for Meaningful Content:

One of the most exciting discoveries was just how much festival-goers were craving this kind of content.

The immersive, interactive experiences and talks drew huge interest, showing that people are eager to engage with deeper narratives and meaningful explorations of consciousness.

This is a powerful signal for us to keep pushing forward with more experiences and explorations in future festivals, expanding the boundaries of what this kind of storytelling can achieve.
